Saturday Competition Gents Golf

Competitive golf is back and there is no lack of effort involved by all our willing volunteers who have to set up the competitions and finalise the results. A big thanks must go to Jacky Henderson for all his excellent hard work and also Alan Learmonth pictured helping with the cards on a Sunday morning.

Saturday competition golf always provides some banter and funny stories and this Saturday past was no different. Jacky Henderson came into the Pro shop after the golf to tell us about his unfortunate experience on the 4th hole. His ball landing in a soft footprint area in a bunker and the ball plugged in the sand. His playing partners came over to view and all were concerned as to how he would get the ball out. Jacky took a mighty swipe and somehow got the ball out the bunker just!! So after listening to his story our vice Captain Jim Honeyman reminded Jacky of the local rule he created himself as head of M&H that you get a preferred lie in a bunker.

And the streak continues

Dustin Johnson is a remarkable golfer. Sorry for stating the obvious – he is third in the Official World Golf Rankings after all – but his record speaks for itself.

His victory at the weekend was his 21st in total. It was also the 13th season in a row that DJ has won on the PGA Tour. To put that into perspective, only Palmer (17), Nicklaus (17) and Woods (14) boast a better record to start off their careers.

The only question mark hanging over his head is his inability to get over the line in Major championships, with just a sole U.S. Open victory to his name thus far. Maybe the big-hitting American is finding his form at the perfect time with an exciting few months ahead in the world of golf.
