Bunker Update

This week has seen our guys turfing in the snow. The joys of being a Greenkeeper in the winter months! Anyway, we have made some good progress already early this week with several more bunkers finished off as far as the turfing is concerned.

The boys from the baseliner company Pro Fusion will be back on site Monday coming to finish off the remaining bunkers, so the progress is all good here too.

As I mentioned last week, I think now we will all need to show a bit of patience because realistically there might not be any sand added to these bunkers until the end of March/start of April. We have to make sure that the heavy investment that has been made is protected until the outer lying turfed areas have taken a hold growth-wise. I guess it will all depend on the spring weather. However, I thought it best to manage expectations now.

We are still in the process of picking the right sand and we are currently sifting through spec sheets that would make your eyes water and after several pages certainly numbs the brain a tad! Anyway as we are all aware this is absolutely key to get right and no stone will be left unturned and every test will be made including on-site tests to ensure that we get the correct outcome. I just wanted to put peoples minds at rest a bit.

Dropping Zones are in Operation from 25th January Until Further Notice

Local Rule 3: Dropping Zones.

If a ball is in the ground under repair at any Green with bunker reconstruction, including when it is known or virtually certain that a ball that has not been found came to rest in the ground under repair, the player
MUST:

Take free relief by dropping the original ball or another ball in the dropping zone at the front of the green.

The dropping zone is a relief area under Rule 14.3

Definition: Circular area defined by a white line and marked DZ.

Penalty for Playing Ball from a Wrong Place in Breach of rule 14.7a: General Penalty.

Note: For any fairway bunkers under reconstruction and in white lined areas of ground under repair.

Free Relief must be taken under rule 16.1 The player takes relief by dropping a ball in a relief area based on the nearest point of complete relief.

Junior news

Junior Golf Update 2020

This season looks like being one of our busiest ever. With a revamped fixture list of fun events, competitions and away days there is a lot to look forward too.

Coaching night has been moved to a Thursday evening to provide a break in days from the Sunday comps and events. We realise this won’t suit all the kids but we felt it key to keep everyone fresh. This season it will be mainly Sandy & Adam along with our excellent volunteers taking the coaching. There will be two blocks based on ability. 5.30-6.30 & 6.30-7.30. Coaching starts in April, date to be confirmed.

Our team of PGA professionals will also be out and about during February/March in the local Primary schools generating interest for the season ahead so keep an eye out for this.

We have two new league competitions which will provide great fun home & away days and competition. With the Scottish Golf GolfSixes for the younger ones and also a new event called the ‘Race to Fairmont’ which will mean inter-club matches for children of all the clubs at each venue. Clubs involved are Ladybank, Carnoustie, Crail, Scotscraig and Leven.
