Heatwave On The Way

Will it last to the Pro Fun Day?

With what looks likely to be an autumn heatwave on the way it really is a great time to be playing golf at the club. Our greens are averaging over ten on the stimp meter and with growth slowing back that should continue for a while at least.

The course really is in great condition and getting great reviews from members and visitors alike at the moment and rightly so, get yourself along for a game and we hope you get yourself signed up for the Pro Fun Day, see details below.

Pro ‘FUN’ Day

Our Pro FUN Day is just around the corner on Sunday 22nd Septmeber and we are now taking entries via the Pro Shop.

To book your time payment is required of £15 for teams of three and £20 for teams of four.

Play is a fun format over 15 holes and teams can be any combination. Juniors, Seniors, Ladies and Gent members are all very welcome to participate.

Prizes will total around £2,000 for this great day out so please get involved.

New Titleist In-Store

We have Titleist’s New T100, T200 and T300 irons, replacing the AP1, AP2 and AP3.

These are beautiful looking irons and in our initial testing, they perform great too. The only tricky thing is when you try to compare new models to old. Titleist have changed the numbers around this time and T100 is the replacement AP2, T200 is AP3 replacement and T300 is the AP1.

Once you get used to it, then it’s pretty simple. The higher the number, then the more forgiving the club will be. This also opens the door for Titleist to bring out an even more forgiving model down the line to compliment the TS1 driver.

Sale sets are now also available on the previous models with up to 30% discount and a free practice 7 iron.

LCL Trophy

Ladybank played Lundin Links at home in the LCL Trophy. The team won by 4 to 2 the results were as follows:

Match 1 - Mark Johnston and Gary Walsh lost 2&1

Match 2 - Kenny Findlay and Jim Honeyman all square

Match 3 - Mark Dodds and Craig McEwan won 3&2

Match 4 - Graham Birnie and Brian McSkimming won 5&4

Match 5 - Azzie Paton and Jim Hair all square

Match 6 - Fergus Johnstone and Duncan Glass won 5&4

This result means Ladybank win the LCL trophy for the 2019/20 season.

Why the recent surge?

Here’s some homework for you: the next time you're watching golf on TV, keep an eye on the number of pros using putters with larger heads. Whilst some golfers still prefer the traditional blade style putters from years gone by, over 60% of PGA Tour players have a larger headed putter in their bag today – the question is: why?

High MOI putters

These are all to do with stability, feel and alignment. When you take a look at Scotty Cameron's Phantom X 12 and 6 models (pictured above) you will see what we mean.

The larger head style of both putters is designed to increase MOI, which is crucial as it means the putter face will twist less at impact, especially when struck away from the sweet spot.

How do they work?

It's all to do with the additional weight in the extremities of the head when compared to traditional blade style putters, which helps to keep the face stable through impact.

You might also find that a heavier and larger putter is easier to control, therefore improving your stroke. Either way, we have a great selection of putters waiting for you to try in-store.
