Club news

Club Championship Finals day round up

Congratulations to everyone who took part, caddied and refereed on our Finals day last Saturday.

A great day appeared to be had by all and there was even dancing into the night by some of our competitors!

Results as follows:

- Ally Hain won vs Gordon Archibald in the gents final

- Robert MacGregor won vs Gavin Ross in the gents handicap final

- Ronnie Carmichael won vs Ian Mitchinson in the Seniors final

- Gillian Paton won vs Jocelyn Mackie in the ladies final

- Shona Peebles won vs Irene Morrow in the ladies silver final

- Christine Mathers won vs Kathleen McInnes in the ladies bronze final

- Toby Smith won vs Reiss Marshall in the boys club final

- Rowen Mather won vs Lauren Mather in the Girls club final

- John Barr won vs Joshua McEwan in the boys' handicap final

- Monty Smith won vs Blake Millar in the boys' plate final

Also on our Club Finals day we also played a fun 9 hole stableford competition for non finalists.

The winner was Bryan Grieve with 20 stableford points over the front nine holes. Well done Bryan. Your prize is in the Pro Shop.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner

Grant Thompson was a big winner last weekend. Grant not only won our sweep with the US Open Golf Bag.

But he also won the Grant Cup on Sunday with a stunning nett 64.

Well done Grant.

St Michaels 1.5 Ladybank 4.5

The handicap summer league team played a league fixture at St Michaels on Tuesday 25th June. On a glorious summer night, Ladybank recorded a fantastic away win.

The results were:

1 - Mark Johnston won 1up - Great win by Mark after being 1 down with two holes to play.

2 - Jim Imrie all square - Jim won the 18th to half his game.

3 - Craig Mathie won 3&2 - Steady golf from Craig as usual.

4 - Colin Bennett won 4&3 - Apart from a lost ball at 9, Colin was 1 under par, great scoring.

5 - Mark Dodds won 1up - Great win by Mark considering he was giving 11 shots to his opponent.

6 - Brian McSkimming lost 1 down - A narrow defeat for Brian, not easy as he was giving 10 shots away to his opponent.

Junior Club Championship Results

Great to see such a great turn out for the Club Championship with some very competitive games it was a great day. Winners are as follows:

Lost your groove?

Much like the tyres on your car, there comes a time when the grooves on your wedges have worn away so much that they need replacing. This process occurs slowly over time and is something that you might not notice at first glance, but when the wear becomes apparent it can have serious consequences on your game.

Fresh vs worn grooves

It might seem a little extreme, but the graphic above illustrates the impact worn grooves can have on shots into greens - a lower ball flight that rolls out farther compared to a wedge with fresh grooves.

Yes, you might be able to adapt by pitching the ball shorter and letting it roll out, but when you don't have much green to work with or are playing a delicate shot worn grooves will be of no use.

What do we suggest?

If dirt, grit and water have visibly harmed your wedge face, it’s time to get your groove back with a new wedge set-up.
