Welcome to another edition of our newsletter. This week we take a look at how Brooks Koepka’s dominant run at The PGA Championship almost came crashing down on the back nine whilst we also brush up on the rule book with a focus on the knee-height drop.

Competition news

Into Full Flow

With the competitions now in full flow we hope you are having a good start to the season? It’s been great to see so many members out competing and the competition is fierce. None more so than in our ladies section where Hannah Braidwood narrowly pipped Linda McDonald in round 2 of the Club Championship Qualifying. Great playing by both Hannah and Linda.

Our gents Saturday was hindered by the poor weather. However that didn’t hamper Paul Ness with a fantastic net 66 narrowly defeating Captain Jim Hair and Neil Tasker who had net 67s. Well done to all who braved the tough conditions.

Our Seniors turned out in record numbers this Tuesday with 51 playing in some sudden down pours. Tom Gregersen narrowly beating Danny Cuthbert with 39 Stableford points. Well done Tom and Danny. Plus everyone else who braved the tough conditions.

Gents Club Championship Week Information and Club Finals Day

Please note there are some changes for this year.

Whilst the Men's qualifying will still take place on Sat/ Sun 15th and 16th June , the knock out rounds will start one day earlier, with the handicap knock out starting on the Monday evening 17th.

All the club finals will be held on Saturday 22nd June, ladies, gents ,juniors and seniors with a change in the running order with the men's scratch afternoon round being the last match on the course.

Presentation of the trophies will take place at around 7.00pm in the evening followed by a social evening (entertainment details and booking process will be confirmed by a club email shortly)

It is hoped that we might see increased numbers watching the finals and participating in the evening’s celebrations.

Seniors news

Seniors Update

The annual match with Ladybank Ladies on May 8th was abandoned (heavy rain) after a hard-fought bacon roll. This match will be replayed in August, weather permitting.

On Tuesday 14th May on a magnificent sunny day Seniors played Blairgowrie away with 4 matches being played on each of the Rosemount and Lansdowne courses and resulted in a 4 - 4 draw. Last week Seniors played Scotscraig at Ladybank and recorded a 5½ - 2½ victory. On Monday 20th May Alyth beat Ladybank at Alyth where the score was 3½ - 4½.

Upcoming Seniors matches for May/June are home games versus Panmure and Balbirnie Park, away to Downfield followed by 2 more home matches with Elie and New Club of St Andrews.

Koepka walks the walk

In an interview prior to the start of The PGA Championship, Brooks Koepka was quoted as saying he believes ‘Majors are the easiest tournaments to win’.

Big words indeed, but the 29-year-old American backed up his claim by taking a wire-to-wire victory in New York.

But only just…

After heading into Sunday with a seven-shot lead, victory should have been a mere formality.

However, the back nine at Bethpage Black proved problematic for Koepka as four straight bogeys through holes 11 to 14 left the chasing Dustin Johnson with a sniff of victory.

Back-to-back bogeys at 16 and 17 quickly put paid Johnson’s challenge as Koepka proved he more than has the ability to match his talk by holding out for his fourth major title with a two-shot victory.

Quiz time

Brooks Koepka’s over par final round 74 is a rarity for a winner in Major championships.

The question is simple;

Who was the last man to shoot over par in the final round of a Major Championship and still go on to win the title?
