Close, but not close enough
It was a case of what might have been for Rory McIlroy, as his first event of 2019 ended with him in a tie for 4th place at the Sentry Tournament of Champions. McIlroy, who was in contention going into the final round, could only card a round of 72, eight shots behind eventual winner Xander Schauffele who shot a stunning course-record equalling 62. The tournament featured 33 PGA Tour winners from the previous calendar year, so McIlroy can take heart that he beat the majority of a very strong field - however, he'll be hoping that his ability to produce a strong final round finally resurfaces by the time the first major of the year comes along. |
