Head green keeper moving on

David Gray our Head Green keeper is leaving the club after taking up the role as Course Manager at Leven Links. David leaves with everyone's best wishes and we all wish him every success in his new venture.

If anyone wishes to drop in a card or such like for David then please leave in the Pro Shop and we will pass anything onto him before he goes.

Michael Hebron Coaching Seminar - Wednesday, 5 September

Michael was inducted into the PGA of America Hall of Fame in 2013. He was the 1991 PGA National Teacher of the Year and the 1990 National Horton Smith Award recipient for his contributions to PGA of Americas education programs.

The first PGA of America Teaching and Coaching Summit, Dallas Tx. 1988 was his idea. He also organized the first European PGA AND Canadian PGA Teaching and Coaching Summits.

Michael Hebron has received over 25 awards. He has been invited to do education seminars in India, Australia, Canada, Finland, Chile, Japan, Costa Rica, England, Ireland, France, Italy, Wales, Scotland, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Spain, Denmark,Korea , Iceland . Has been invited to organizations, businesses, Yale, MIT and other colleges, universities and school districts throughout the United States to speak on the topic of learning.

If he had a choice, Michael has said would like to be known for how he delivers information to students rather than who the students he has spent time with are. Michael’s preference is to pass on the value of playful, student-centered/brain compatible approaches to learning, which supports learning anything, both information and motor skills to golfers at every level of the game. Michael refers to this as LEARNING POSITIVE GOLF. He has coached winners on the PGA, LPGA, EUROPEAN TOURS, Ryder Cup, Walker Cup players, a MASTERS, a US OPEN and a PGA champion, but enjoys his time with club golfers the most.

Every year over 800 youth golfers take part in the programs offered at his Club, Smithtown Landing. Five high school golf teams also train and play their matches there.

Wednesday, 5 September: 9.30 - 4pm

Members, Guests and returning PGA Professionals/Assistants

The morning session will be indoors, where Michael will talk through and demonstrate key aspects to improve your golf. He will cover all areas of the game and you will come out of this session much clearer in how to improve your approach to golf. Michael aims to increase your understanding on how you learn best and will give you simple, effective techniques to use on your golf game.

12.30-1.30 Lunch will be provided - Soup and Sandwiches of your liking on thick crusty bread.

Our afternoon will be spent out doors on Ladybank’s exclusive private members practice area. Michael will coach several different ability level players within the group explaining his reasoning behind decisions made during the coaching sessions.He will finish off by taking as many questions as possible.

Members and any guests cost- £56 pp including Soup & Sandwich lunch.

Ladies Away Day with Sandy

Our Ladies away day to Alyth planned for Tuesday 18th September is filling up really fast with 22 of our ladies booked to go. Sign up in the Pro Shop to avoid missing out!

The cost is £35 which includes the golf Coffee/Bacon rolls on arrival, meal afterwards and sweep and twos entry on the day.

Ladies Exchange Day - 31st July 2018

The Ladybank ladies enjoyed a lovely day at Falkirk Tryst GC with excellent food and very welcoming and helpful staff. This year’s format was a ‘Shamble’ (a cross between a Texas Scramble and a 4BBB) which proved to be very popular with the ladies, especially the winners – The Nutty Putters – Elsie Hutcheon, Nina Alexander, Anne Anderson and Christine Mathers (136bih).

The novelty Par 3 challenge which included driving wearing Marigold gloves resulted in several of the ladies preferring this to their usual ones, modelled here by the senior winner Jean Lawson (net 68). A surprise guest professional in the photo quiz had all the ladies foxed, thanks to Sandy for being a good sport.

Many thanks to all the ladies taking part for making the day such a fun event in our calendar.

Open Championship - Carnoustie

A couple of our Juniors were lucky enough to attend the Open at Carnoustie... They had a go in the skills centre, received a free lesson and even met an Open Champion!

Two of our Juniors, John and Liam Barr were also lucky enough to attend the Irish Open while visiting family, getting some fantastic pictures! They also managed to fill some hats with lots of signatures!

Hat-trick for Koepka

What a few years the big-hitting American is having. Since making his debut in the 2016 Ryder Cup, where he won three out of a possible four points, Brooks has secured three major championships, including back-to-back U.S. Opens and last week’s PGA Championship.

Koepka took a two-shot lead into Sunday’s final round and couldn’t have dreamt for a better start; booming a 325-yard drive down the fairway before hitting his approach to six-foot for an opening birdie. A little wobble in the middle of his front nine was quickly addressed with birdies on seven, eight and nine, at which point a certain Tiger Woods was making a charge. But Koepka showed his quality by shooting a flawless two-under-par back nine, holding off challenges from Woods, Scott and Thomas to claim his third major title in his last six major starts.

There’s always a real buzz surrounding golf's four biggest events, especially in a Ryder Cup year as we eagerly watch on to see who’ll make the respective teams come September, but Tiger’s challenge in last month’s Open Championship and last week’s PGA Championship has got golf back on the front pages once again. Maybe, just maybe, we're beginning to see Tiger getting back to his incredible best, which can only be a positive for the sport.

Here, there and everywhere

We are faced with a whole range of scenarios out on the course, some of which we practice regularly and others that we don’t. When you consider the different types of shots you hit around the greens, it really does highlight how versatile your wedges need to be.

Versatility is key
We ask a lot from our wedges, from opening up the face to hit high lob/flop shots to moving the ball back in our stance to play low flying pitches and everything in between. It’s therefore obvious that you should be playing something you’re comfortable with from any spot around the greens.
