Member Reminder - The GRANT CUP - Sat 28th June 2014 has been re-scheduled for Saturday 30th August due to the Paul Lawrie Junior Jug being held.
Adam Fisher, one of three Paul Lawrie Foundation supported players recently taken-on by Paul (Adam, Sam Locke & Michael Lawrie) today sealed victory in the Junior Jug at Ladybank GC with a closing 74 (+3) for 211 total (-2).
The Newmachar player was put under pressure by Calum Fyfe – who got to four-under for his round at the 16th hole – whilst he (Adam) had struggled on his front nine. Adam made a costly 8 on the par 5 second and put him out of sorts for some time. He steadied the ship on his closing nine carding birdies at the par 3 12th and tough 17th hole and secured a two shot victory over Fyfe (Cawder).
Defending champion Murray Naysmith had been making a good job of his defence with an outward 35 (-1) but gave away too many shots over the closing holes and finished on his own in 3rd place on +2 (215).
The immaculate layout proved a tough test with only Calum Fyfe breaking the Par of 71 today. His 68 three shots better than the next best score on the day.

The Kirk Trophy fixtured for Sunday, 27th July.
This is the annual opportunity for gentlemen members to invite a friend from another Club with a competition handicap to play in a four ball better ball competition over our course. As always there will be many excellent prizes to be won. It has been agreed to increase the entry fee from £10 to £25 and the increase will provide the member and his guest with a one course hot buffet meal after their round. Forms are now available in the foyer of the Club and the completed form and the entry fee should be returned to the office staff or posted in the competition entry box in the gents changing rooms. The closing date for entries will be Sunday, 20th July.

Suspended Play
During the afternoon of the first qualifying round of the Club Championship play had to be suspended due to the course being unplayable because of the flooding of a number of greens and some members were unaware of their responsibilities during suspended play. It was agreed to issue an explanatory note.
Rule 18 for Local Competitions included in the Member's diary outlines the procedure to be adopted when it is deemed necessary to stop play during a competition. This will be signalled by THREE loud blasts of a fog horn. Players should IMMEDIATELY mark or leave their ball in situ and stop play.
If, as was the case on this particular day, suspension was caused by casual water accumulating around the hole, the use of squeegees removed the water from around the holes on the affected greens and after the enforced delay the course was re-opened allowing the players to continue. This is signalled by one blast of the fog horn.
All the bunker rakes on Ladybank Golf Course can also be used as squeegees by using the back of the rake.
The Ruling regarding casual water is that when a player's ball is lying on a putting green and there is interference by casual water on the green the player may (a) take relief under Rule 25 - 1b(iii), or (b) have the line to the hole squeegeed. Squeegeeing should be done across the line of the putt and extend a reasonable distance beyond the hole.
Squeegees are invaluable when puddles start to form on putting greens. After heavy rain, casual water can remain on some greens for a considerable period of time if nothing is done to remove it. However, players/members are encouraged to use the bunker rake/squeegees when these conditions prevail and the casual water can be removed in a few minutes.
If conditions deteriorate, the Committee may authorise a combination of moving the ball under Rule 25-1b(iii) together with squeegeeing across the line. In addition, while a player is not entitled to relief under Rule 25-1 for casual water on his line of play when his ball lies off the putting green, in exceptional circumstances, if casual water on the putting green on the player's line of play materially affects his intended stroke, the Committee may authorise its clearance.
The Committee or the Professional and his staff will not suspend play unless absolutely necessary but it is their responsibility to do everything possible to protect players from bad weather and lightning and, therefore, no chances will be taken in this respect. It must be appreciated that the decision of the M & H Committee and the Professional and his staff is final.

Ladybank GC Public Access Defibrillator (PAD)
As agreed and approved by General Committee, a PAD has been purchased and installed on the Pro Shop outside wall (front left). This proprietary unit comprises a climate controlled cabinet with an automated external defibrillator inside the cabinet, which is alarmed.
At the express request of East Neuk First Responders, who facilitate the purchase, this unit is now operational and awareness training and recommended signage will follow. However they have gone to great pains to point out that the operation of this unit requires no formal training. In that respect could Members please be aware that this is a public self help facility, for public use in the event of a cardiac arrest. Call 999 and do not call a member of club staff. The unit is not for exclusive use by club members or visitors to the club.
Disappointingly East Neuk First Responders have failed to deliver their promise of awareness training for both members and staff and this will need to be outsourced to another organisation in due course.
