Titleist & FootJoy Club Professionals Championship Qualifiers
Congratulations to Paul O'Hara on a magnificent 68 in tricky conditions during the Titleist/FootJoy Club Professionals Championship qualifying at Ladybank on Wednesday. Paul tamed the course and on finishing was lavish in his praise for the work done by our Greens staff. The feedback from all the competing Professionals was highly complimentary. Well done to Colin, Dave and the team.
Chris McMaster who was one of the favourites pre event and missed out in a play off sent the below tweet:
"Great condition @ladybankgolf for the @Titleist & @FootJoy British club pro Qulifier. Thank you to @ThePGA @PGAScotland @SandySmithGolf"

Head Greenkeepers BlogWhat a bizarre spell of weather we have been experiencing, we all know how we can get a dry windy spell in April but we have recorded less than 1mm of rainfall since 30th March. This is evident in that the course is playing like it should in the height of summer- firm, fast running and fiery. I played in the medal at the weekend and couldn't believe the amount of run on the fairways…not that I hit many!!
This highlights the importance of having our irrigation system up and running quickly and efficiently, not that most of you will ever see it working but it has been automatically programmed to irrigate Greens, Tees & Approaches overnight on & off for the last 14 days. We even had to hand water some isolated dry areas last week that were showing signs of stress, mainly high traffic routes or walk on, walk off spots on greens.
We closely monitor our moisture levels with our Pogo moisture meter and this determines how long we programme the pop ups to irrigate for.
We have also managed to borrow a Clegg Hammer from Elmwood College this week which measures firmness.
It's important we keep within our targets for both of these qualities to ensure both the plant is happy and we create a fair test.
This week we were averaging around 17% moisture and 115 gravities on the Clegg- both well within target.
This week we applied our annual nutritional mix to fairways which is slightly earlier than usual but conditions have been favourable and soil temperatures are acceptable enough for us to see a response from it.
Anyone who played on Wednesday would have had fun playing spot the ball with all the white foam; these dots of foam left afterwards are used as a spraying guide to ensure accuracy and to minimise any overdosing or missed spots.
One problem with fairways which is a recurring one at this time of year is the poor recovery of divots, and this has been further hampered by the spell of incredibly dry pleasant weather which has meant to course has been very busy too.
There has been some reports of golfers playing numerous balls on the course which doesn't help the situation with divots. The greens committee would ask that anyone who wishes to practice uses the vast facilities on offer.
Please note that all G.U.R on the course will be fully back in play as of Friday 21st April, this includes new bunkers and surrounding turf.
