Greetings from Sandy Smith | Ladybank Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional |
With The Open on our doorstep this week, it's going to be as entertaining as ever to see how the world's best cope with the old course. Many pundits feel that around 15-20 under par is going to win the event, which would seem realistic given the softer than normal conditions due to the high rainfall levels. However with a fresh Scottish wind kicking up who knows! My tips would be Brandon Grace along with Matt Kuchar as each way bets. My pick to win is Louis Oosthuizen along with Justin Rose.
I hope you have some luck with your picks and good luck to everyone who entered our Open draw.
Due to the Open Championship being held this week, there have been some minor adjustments to tee times for Saturday's Competition, Captain's Putter.
Could all members please check their tee times and contact Pro Shop if you need to change times allocated.
As The Open Championship happens once every five years, the Club must maximise visitor income during this one week. I hope that everyone who wishes to play can do so, and I hope that all will be courteous to our visitors.
Management Committee
The Open is bound to inspire you to get out and play a bit this weekend, so with this in mind here's a little tip to help you in blustery conditions, a bit like the guys at St Andrews will be facing. When playing into the wind, resist the urge to take the skin off the ball. There's a difference between attacking the ball with confidence and swinging too hard, which will create more backspin. At best, with a good connection, you'll send the ball higher. Into the wind you're not going to get the result you're after. More often than not however, with amateur golfers, the ball won't get airborne or destructive hooks and slices will come into play.
Instead, take an extra club or two and swing at 75%, with the ball an inch farther back in your stance. The ball will have a lower flight, but with the control you need. You'll be a better player with this shot in your locker. Give it a go and see how you get on.
