Fife boys' team

Sam Nicholson and Lewis Ballantyne were both representing Ladybank for the Fife boys team last Sunday. This is the first time in a while we have had two players in the county set up, which is great. Well done to both Sam and Lewis who played very well. Sam managed a 4 & 3 win, whilst Lewis was unlucky to only get a half match after his opponent eagled twice during the round, with one being on the last hole!!

Gregor gets his Diploma at The Belfry

A huge well done to Gregor pictured below receiving his diploma at The Belfry last week.

I'm sure this was a great honour for him and very well deserved after all his hard work during the process of passing his exams over the last 4 years.

Not only did Gregor receive his Diploma! He also took home a nice cheque for finishing 2nd in Scotland with his results.

Quite an achievement.

Our greenkeeper David Gray took this amazing picture whilst out on the course during the frost delay on Sunday morning, before the second round of the Smith Anderson trophy.

This is surely one of the reasons we all love to play at Ladybank. It's difficult to beat the flora and fauna we see on a daily basis around the course.

After such an amazing picture from David we have decided to run a 'Best Picture competition' over the next month.

It must be from the course at Ladybank. It can be from the past or up to date. The winner will receive a Ladybank logoed shirt.

I have included a small selection of images from the past to show you what the course used to look like in the sixties to get the juices flowing. It will be great to see if we have any budding photographers amoungst you.

Thanks to Martin McDevitt for supplying the pictures taken by Past Captain Lindsay Logan. These pictures were taken late 1950s to early 1960s I'm reliably informed. Quite an incredible transformation from the late 1950s then to now.

As little prelude to our Golf Phycology evening taking place on the 18th June at 7pm, I wanted to highlight an area of importance in this field as I see it.

The Practice vs Play mind sets!

Many people don't differentiate between how they operate mentally on the course with what they do when they practice. This I believe is one of the biggest areas holding people's performance levels back. I strongly believe that you must operate in practice in a left side of the brain mode I.e being analytical, thinking about what you are physically doing and making repetitions of the same movement again and again to in grain a new technique or skill.

However the opposite is true when you operate in a playing golf mode on the course. It then becomes key to switch the side of the brain you utilise and operate in a right side of the brain mode. I.e not thinking about what your body is doing, not thinking technically about body movement. Once you get on the golf course you have to hope that any practised skill is becoming in grained/learned. This obviously takes time and is the main reason people jump around looking for quick fixes or band aids as many like to call them.

Many simply don't understand the time factor required to efficiently learn a new skill to its conclusion. Ie once you can do it without thinking about it. I strongly suggest when you play golf that you play with the right side brain and go out there visualising what you hope the ball is going to do rather than what you are going to do over a shot.

I can guarantee more success if you operate like this in the future with any golfing time you may have. The greatest golfer of them all, Jack Nicklaus, once said "my most powerful tool was my ability to use visualisation on the course." Powerful stuff indeed from a great.

Some of you may still be in winter mode playing with a distance ball, when something offering a bit more feel would be better suited to the conditions and your swing.
