With the golf course firming up due to the strong winds, good scoring was tough over the weekend for our members. However it didn't stop Kenny Findlay from shooting an excellent net 69 in winning the PGA Qualifier.
In the ladies section Nina Alexander won the SAS Merit 1 with a commendable 31 points in the tough conditions to prevail.
For further details of a great new trophy, please see the following:
The Legacy Trophy will be played for in September over the PGA Centenary course at Gleneagles and the Rosemount course at Blairgowrie.
This sounds like an exciting event for any amateur golfer keen on playing excellent courses and playing for really good prizes. Please visit: http://www.golfperthshire.co.uk/legacy-trophy.php
A course not playing quite as firm and fast as in the past was Augusta. It was noticeable and obvious from the players comments that the greens were a little slower than normal. This certainly helped Jordan Speith get his eye in on the greens in an incredible display of putting.
He only had 3 x three putts all week, which in itself is an achievement on those undulating greens. However even more important to his success was his ability to find the greens in regulation. A very impressive 75% of greens hit in regulation vs a rest of the field stat of 63%.

Greens Update
The new bunker and newly laid turf at the 12th is now back in play. I think most will agree that it fits in really well to the surrounding area.
We will be continuing our aeration and top dressing program next week. There is a new information poster pinned on the notice board in the foyer detailing the importance of top dressing and aeration for anyone who is interested.
Aeration and top dressing are vital tools in producing healthy turf - short term disruption for long term benefits!! March & April are ideal months for us to do a little top dressing to aid sward recovery coming out of the winter months. We use a little and often approach to keep disruption to a minimum.

The Practice vs Play mind sets!
Many people don't differentiate between how they operate mentally on the course with what they do when they practice. This I believe is one of the biggest areas holding people's performance levels back. I strongly believe that you must operate in practice in a left side of the brain mode I.e being analytical, thinking about what you are physically doing and making repetitions of the same movement again and again to in grain a new technique or skill.
However the opposite is true when you operate in a playing golf mode on the course. It then becomes key to switch the side of the brain you utilise and operate in a right side of the brain mode. I.e not thinking about what your body is doing, not thinking technically about body movement. Once you get on the golf course you have to hope that any practised skill is becoming in grained/learned. This obviously takes time and is the main reason people jump around looking for quick fixes or band aids as many like to call them.
Many simply don't understand the time factor required to efficiently learn a new skill to its conclusion. Ie once you can do it without thinking about it. I strongly suggest when you play golf that you play with the right side brain and go out there visualising what you hope the ball is going to do rather than what you are going to do over a shot.
I can guarantee more success if you operate like this in the future with any golfing time you may have. The greatest golfer of them all, Jack Nicklaus, once said "my most powerful tool was my ability to use visualisation on the course." Powerful stuff indeed from a great.
