Greetings golfers,

Welcome to another exciting edition of our weekly newsletter. From course records to golfing habits we do and don't recommend, this week's newsletter is a must read for all golfers! We have lots happening in the shop at the moment too, so be sure to pop your head in next time you're here and take a look around.

Ryan moves back west

Ryan has taken the decision to move back to the west coast to be closer to his family, friends and girlfriend. After 20 months at Ladybank and gaining his PGA Diploma it wasn't an easy decision as he had made many friends at the club. However in the interests of his career moving forwards and to spend more time around family he felt he needed a change. Ryan will be missed by many members and we wish him all the very best with his future career.

Many members will know Jim Meek who has started in the Pro Shop on a temporary basis over the last two months. As a result of Ryan moving on, Jim has intimated that he is happy to fill in and cover Ryan's hours so there will be no disruption to member services in the Pro Shop.

Demo day

Dates for your diary

We have a couple of upcoming demo days for you all to get involved in. 

First up PING will be here at Ladybank on Saturday, 2 September from 10am to 2pm. With the recent launch of their new G400 range this should be a popular day. Come try out the new range and get fitted by the PING team for FREE!

Then looking forward, Callaway will be with us on Friday, 15 September from 1.30pm to 5.30pm. Again they will have all their latest products available to demo and be professionally fitted for.

Don't put yourself at a disadvantage

We always encourage the golfers we teach to get out on the practice ground between lessons. It’s through this repetition that swing changes start to feel more natural so the pupil can then hit the course full of confidence. We love good habits like this, but there is one habit we see all the time that we certainly don’t recommend…

NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE?

It’s not uncommon for us to see members playing a scuffed ball, using it until it eventually gets lost. But ball damage, such as worn dimples or surface cuts, can alter the airflow over your ball, making your trajectory more erratic and causing wayward shots and shorter carries.

You might think this would have minimal effect versus and unblemished ball, but a mark across just a few dimples can make 10 yards difference to a shot, as we’ve demonstrated in the illustration here.

IT'S AN EASY CHOICE

You have the ability to ensure your ball is the same on every hole, which is why we recommend finding one you like and sticking to it to improve your consistency.

Which one are you?

So you find yourself on the course facing 172 yards left to the pin; how do you work out which club to use? There is one method that many turn to, but we hope you’re not one of them...

 

PLUS OR MINUS 10 YARDS

Do you know how far you hit each iron, or do you just add or subtract 10 yards per club from your 150 club to find the one you need?

We come across many amateurs who do this, but you’d be surprised how far out this method is when we bring those golfers in for a gapping session, which helps explain why they miss so many greens.
